Living in a Castle is an educational App for children which encourages exploration and discovery of life in a medieval castle. Visually rich illustrations, interactive animations and stimulating games provide a fun learning experience for children.
Originally designed as an Interactive CD-ROM for my final major MA project, the product has been updated and re-visioned as a tablet application with a new app icon and splash page to complete the transition. Children can explore all aspects of castle life, learning about luxurious feasts, cooking in the kitchen, the history of the castle and much more.
As they discover new characters and different areas of the castle, objects are collected and their progress is recorded onto a scoreboard.
This project was initiated by two longstanding preoccupations, the first, a curiosity about the lives of people who lived in castles. The second, an artistic appreciation of the style, patterns and intricate detail of medieval manuscript art. The original project was created over the course of two semesters and was a real labour of love. Everything was designed and created from scratch. Images of the castle, characters and objects were drawn, scanned and collaged in Photoshop.
